Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association represents about 7,200 dairy farmers in the Mid-Atlantic Region and keeps dairy statistics and information on dairy production by state for the region we represent. In Pennsylvania there are 7,140 farms with 536,000 cows that produce 10.5 billion pounds of milk. Dairy production in New Jersey is 127 million pounds of milk. The milk is produced by 7,000 cows on 80 dairy farms. Dairy production in Maryland is 972 million pounds of milk on 500 dairy farms by 51,000 cows. Delaware has 4,900 cows that produce 93.7 million pounds of milk on 50 farms.

Pennsylvania ranks fifth in the U.S. for dairy production by state. Pennsylvania ranks second for the number of dairy farms and fifth for the number of cows. Maryland ranks 28th for dairy production by state, 17th for number of dairy farms and 28th for number of cows. New Jersey ranks 4th for U.S. milk production by state, 42nd for number of dairy farms and 45th for number of cows. Delaware is ranked 47th for dairy production by state, 45th for number of dairy farms and 28th for number of cows. Total U.S. milk production by state has increased about 15 percent over the last decade.
